1. Water Sports
With various rivers, lakes and reservoirs to choose from, you’ll never be far from a place to take a dip in the St. George area. From boating to cliff jumping or jet skiing, there are options for every adventurer, and with incredible scenery and plenty of sunshine, you’re set for a beautiful day out on the water. We have a few recommendations for those looking to cool off:
Sand Hollow State Park
This 1,322-acre reservoir is located just 20 minutes from St. George and is the perfect spot for anyone looking to spend their day on the lake. On the Northwest side of the lake, you’ll find a dock to park your boat and some awesome cliff jumping spots. If you didn’t bring your own gear, you can rent skis, surfboards, paddleboards, kayaks and more from the nearby rental shops. They even have jet skis if you feel the need for speed!
Quail Creek State Park
This state park is also located just outside of St. George and is a little less than half the size of Sand Hollow (600 acres). You will also find boat ramps and docks within this park, plus plenty of places to take your rentals out. The beaches are typically rockier in Quail Creek but it’s an overall much less crowded park.
Lake Powell and Lake Mead
While these may not look like your typical lakes, there is still plenty of room for water sports in Lake Powell and Lake Mead. While you can hike, camp and climb in the surrounding canyons, the real fun lies on the sandy beaches. Take a swim, float in a tube or try your best water skiing tricks while hanging out at Lake Powell.
2. Motor Sports
If you’re ready to hit the trails on your ATV, bike or Jeep, you’ll love these activities in St. George, Utah and the surrounding area. Whether you’re looking for a challenging trail or you’re a beginner at motorsports, there are options for everyone! Strap on your helmet and find your perfect trail:
ATV Trails
On the East side of St. George, you’ll find tons of ATV trails that you will provide awesome thrills and views to match. Check out the Long Valley Recreation Area, Warner Valley and The West Rim. All these locations are great spots to break out the bikes and do some exploring.
Sand Dunes
While you’re in Sand Hollow State Park for your day on the lake, check out the Coral Pink Sand Dunes. You’ll love coasting up and down these beautiful hills on your ATV for an experience you’ll never forget. Make sure you’re wearing all your protective gear to avoid sand in your eyes!
3. Canyoneering
A trip to Southern Utah wouldn’t be complete without taking some time to try out canyoneering in the parks. If you’ve never tried canyoneering before, we recommend places like Orderville Canyon, Johnson Arch Canyon and Zion National Park. For those with some experience who may be looking for a challenge, check out Buckskin Gulch, Neon Canyon, Heaps Canyon and Imlay Canyon. Regardless of where you choose to spend your day, we suggest going with Paragon Adventures.
